This diet works best for people who simply cannot lose calories, but if you do not, you cannot control your calories and maintain a normal weight. If you improve the nutritional quality of your diet, you lose the desire to eat too much and limit yourself to eating the way most Americans eat.
   
Remember, there are people in the world who are fine with a vegan or vegetarian diet, but they are completely malnourished, as my husband has actually lived his whole life. Anyone who eats too much and then gets sick does nothing for his health, and that is why he gets sick. When I finally wanted to stop writing about a really mean and really healthy diet I found out I had been living a vegan / vegetarian lifestyle incorrectly for a few years.
   
The diet is essentially a healthy, low-carbohydrate, high-protein, vegan / vegetarian diet, and it is packed with foods that contain secondary plant substances, vitamins, minerals, and more to strengthen your immune system and protect you from lifestyle-related diseases.
   
Although nutrient density is not exactly a new idea, Dr. Fuhrman's concept is research - based and supported. The selection of foods with a high nutrient content in relation to calories is the basic basis of a healthy diet. When it comes to short- and long-term health, there is extensive research supporting the uptake of nutrient-rich foods such as fruits, vegetables, nuts and whole grains.
